About this pay scale

Inner London teachers are paid on a separate STPCD pay table — entirely different figures from Rest of England. This is NOT a percentage uplift; the Inner London table has its own published values at every spine point. Schools in the 12 inner London boroughs (Camden, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, Westminster) plus the City of London use these rates.

The Inner London uplift is largest at entry (M1: +£7,401 vs Rest of England) and proportionally smaller at the top of Leadership (L43: +£9,694, about 6.7% extra). At the high end, Inner London headteachers in Group 8 schools can reach £153,490 — the highest published teacher salary in the network.

All four regions use entirely separate STPCD pay tables — not a percentage uplift. Net pay assumes TPS contributions are on at the applicable tier, no student loan, no salary sacrifice, 1.0 FTE.

FAQ

Which boroughs are "Inner London" for teacher pay?
The 12 statutory Inner London boroughs (Camden, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Lambeth, Lewisham, Newham, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, Westminster) plus the City of London. This is a slightly different definition from the ONS's Inner London — it's defined by STPCD specifically for teacher pay.
Does Inner London pay get added on top of MPR?
No — Inner London uses entirely separate pay tables. Every spine point (M1 through L43) has its own Inner London figure, not a percentage on top of Rest of England. At M1 the Inner London value is £40,317; at L43 (top of Group 8 head) it's £153,490.
What if I commute into Inner London from outside?
Pay is determined by the school's location, not the teacher's home address. A teacher commuting from Hertfordshire (Fringe area) into a Hackney school is paid on the Inner London table.
How does Inner London compare to other London Weighting schemes?
STPCD's "Inner London" pay is around £7,400 higher than Rest of England at entry-level — roughly equivalent to the Met Police's London allowance + weighting combined (£9,474). NHS HCAS Inner London is 20% of basic pay with min/max caps. Each profession's "London pay" works differently.
