About this pay scale
STPCD (School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document) is the statutory framework governing teacher pay in England state-funded schools. The pay scales are recommended by the STRB (School Teachers' Review Body) following annual evidence-gathering, accepted (sometimes amended) by the Secretary of State for Education, and effective from 1 September each year. The 2025/26 award applies from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026.

FAQ
When are the 2025/26 figures effective?
From 1 September 2025 (start of the academic year) to 31 August 2026. The STRB award and DfE acceptance for 2026/27 typically come out in summer 2026 — sometimes delayed into early autumn. The new rates take effect on 1 September even if backdated payments are made later.
How do academies fit in?
Academies are legally exempt from STPCD but most follow it for simplicity. Some multi-academy trusts have bespoke pay scales (often higher than STPCD to attract/retain teachers). Free schools, sixth-form colleges, and independent schools also operate outside STPCD with their own arrangements.
Where can I find the original DfE document?
The "School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document and Guidance" is published annually by DfE at gov.uk after acceptance of the STRB report. NASUWT and NEU also publish the figures in a more digestible format; this calculator's numbers are derived from the NASUWT tables.
Did all teachers get a pay rise in September 2025?
Yes — the 2025/26 award gave a flat 4% increase across all pay ranges (MPR, UPR, Leadership, Unqualified), all 4 regional tables. This is in line with the STRB's "competitiveness" recommendation. TLR and SEN allowance ranges were also uplifted by 4%.
